What lies behind us and what lies before us are small matters compared to what lies within us. ~Emerson~

Hello, my name is Linda Jean McNabb. I was gang-raped at age 13 outside a church dance by a group of boys. My childhood was already difficult and this event cemented my fate for decades to come. I'd begun substance abuse at 12 and by 20 I was an alcoholic. After a lifetime of self-destructive behavior and self-medicating, to escape from the pain of my traumatic childhood and suicidal depression, I was finally able to forgive the past and make a new life for myself. Today I am happy and living a beneficial life.

I have a vision of a world where the rape of a child is no more. My heart fills with joy to think that I can help spare others all or some of the pain and suffering which I endured. If I can end my suffering, then so can others. To be able to play a role in realizing this vision during my lifetime, is my heart's song. I believe we each have at least one heart song. perhaps more.

I see sexual abuse & assault, physical & mental abuse, upon our children to be a menacing, crippling legacy which has passed from one generation to the next for thousands of years. It is a largely silent and invisible epidemic which has flooded our planet and we are drowning in its ooze. We mostly try to avoid looking at this too closely for fear that this epidemic is too large and too out-of-control.  We fear that we are powerless in the face of its far-reaching enormity. If we knew the real numbers of all those affected by this epidemic, we'd be shaken to our cores. I see the quickest way to end this epidemic is to reach out to those who suffer; both the victims and the perpetrators. We must shine a very bright light in every corner of our world so that no one can hide in the dark any longer. The cycle of assault and abuse continues to thrive because the victims either grow-up and maintain the victim role or become perpetrators themselves. And many times the adult victims are unable to protect and/or empower their children, so the cycle continues.

We are one human family and while we reach out one arm to protect our children let us reach out the other hand to  the perpetrators who need and want our help to end this cycle. We must not wait for the world to change. The time to act is now.  Let's  make it virtually impossible for a perpetrator to strike. Together we can decide to stop the rape of our children.  We have the technology and resources to do this. Let's just do it. Make the decision today, right now,  in your heart.  We can all agree that there is room for vast improvement.

Within my heart's vision I see a person-to-person campaign in each community. I'm designing a model that can easily be modified and used in all parts of the world.  The main targets of abuse and attack are babies, children, and young people. It is apparent that the majority of the perpetrators are those who have easy access to our children and live among us as family, friends, and the very people we think we can trust. In my life the people who harmed me were my father, an uncle, an orderly in a hospital, a doctor, a policeman, and teenage boys at a church dance. I hear similar stories all the time. We must educate and inform the children and young people along with the parents and care takers. Through this process we will protect and prevent by empowering our children, young people, parents and care takers. And the perpetrators whom we help will in-turn help us to inform and educate and become an integral part of the solution.  We will move from a position of fear to one of strength and real power. Let's make all places in our communities a NO HARM TO CHILDREN ZONE.
